Microneedling in Hounslow
Microneedling — also known as collagen induction therapy — is one of the most clinically effective treatments available for skin rejuvenation, acne scarring, and overall skin quality improvement. At Skin Health Practice in Hounslow, we use the medical-grade m.pen pro device to precisely control needle depth and delivery, ensuring consistent results and minimising downtime. Unlike at-home derma rollers, professional microneedling reaches the correct depth to trigger genuine collagen remodelling — without the risk of infection or uneven treatment that comes with unsupervised use.

How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling works by creating thousands of precise, controlled micro-channels in the skin using ultra-fine needles. These micro-injuries are too small to be seen by the naked eye but are large enough to trigger the skin's natural wound-healing cascade. In response, the body floods the area with growth factors and begins producing new collagen and elastin fibres — the structural proteins responsible for firm, plump, smooth skin. Over time, this new collagen remodels the skin from within, reducing the appearance of scars, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, minimising pore size, and improving overall skin texture and tone. Microneedling also creates temporary channels through which active serums — such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or peptides — can penetrate far deeper than topical application allows, significantly amplifying their effectiveness.
What Skin Concerns Does Microneedling Treat?
Microneedling is one of the most versatile skin treatments available and is effective for a wide range of concerns. Acne scars and boxcar scars — microneedling is considered one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for atrophic acne scarring; multiple sessions progressively fill and smooth depressed scars. Fine lines and wrinkles — collagen stimulation plumps and firms the skin, reducing the depth of expression lines around the eyes, forehead, and mouth. Enlarged pores — the collagen produced around pore walls tightens them visibly over a course of treatment. Skin texture and tone — rough, dull, or uneven skin becomes visibly smoother and more luminous. Stretch marks — microneedling can improve the texture and colour of stretch marks on the abdomen, thighs, and breasts. Hyperpigmentation and melasma — when combined with brightening serums, microneedling can improve pigmentation. Hair loss — scalp microneedling with growth factor serums is used to stimulate hair follicle activity.
Why the m.pen pro?
Not all microneedling devices are equal. The m.pen pro is a medical-grade automated microneedling pen that allows your practitioner to precisely control needle depth (from 0.25mm to 2.5mm), needle speed, and treatment intensity — customising every session to your specific skin concern and the area being treated. Shallow depths are used for surface-level concerns and delicate areas like around the eyes; deeper settings are used for established acne scars and stretch marks. The automated stamp motion ensures even, consistent needle penetration — unlike manual rollers, which can create uneven channels and carry a higher risk of tearing. Disposable, sterile needle cartridges are used for every client, ensuring complete hygiene. The m.pen pro is also compatible with mesoestetic treatment serums that are infused directly into the skin during treatment, further enhancing results.
What Does Microneedling Feel Like?
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin 30 to 45 minutes before treatment to ensure your comfort. Once the skin is numb, most clients feel a mild vibrating sensation rather than sharp discomfort. Some areas — such as the forehead, nose, and jawline — may feel more sensitive than others. The treatment itself takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes for a full-face session. Immediately afterwards, the skin will look and feel similar to moderate sunburn — pink, warm, and slightly swollen. This reaction is normal and typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. Most clients can return to work the following day.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions depends on what you are treating. For general skin rejuvenation, improved texture, and fine lines, a course of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart typically produces excellent results. For established acne scarring, most clients benefit from 4 to 6 sessions, with deeper or older scars requiring more. For stretch marks, 4 to 8 sessions may be recommended. After completing a course, many clients choose one or two maintenance sessions per year to sustain their results. Your practitioner will assess your skin at consultation and set realistic expectations for the number of sessions needed for your specific concerns.
Microneedling Aftercare
In the 24 hours following treatment, the skin is more sensitive and permeable than usual. Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser and avoid all active skincare ingredients — retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C — for at least 48 hours. Do not wear makeup for 24 hours. Avoid sun exposure, saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 48 hours. SPF 30 or higher should be used daily during your course of treatment. Do not pick, press, or rub any temporary redness or scabbing — allow the skin to heal naturally. The micro-channels created during treatment close within hours of the session, but the healing process continues for days to weeks beneath the surface.
Is Microneedling Safe for Dark Skin?
Yes — unlike some laser treatments, microneedling does not rely on heat targeting of pigment, which means it carries a significantly lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones. This makes it an excellent option for clients with South Asian, East Asian, African, or Middle Eastern skin who want to address acne scarring or texture without the risk associated with certain laser procedures. We have extensive experience treating all skin tones at our Hounslow clinic and tailor the needle depth, serum choice, and post-treatment care to ensure the safest and most effective outcome for your skin.
